my first time in Vegas

This past weekend was my first road trip in a long time. It was also my first time in Vegas.
I ended up down ~$75, but I also managed to have several 3000+ calorie meals and many free beers. Some things to note about Vegas versus my previous Nevada experiences in Reno:

  • The dealers are much more friendly and talkative
  • The drinks in Vegas are more plentiful
  • The number of drunk people is much higher
  • The air is much less smoky
  • The people in the casinos are much less depressed
  • The buffets are about the same
  • The drive is a bit longer
  • I still do better at roulette than craps

Thanks for planning that trip Verohnie.

Widgets

I'm officially a code nerd once again.

I entered a contest to create a new widget (What's a widget?) and I've become a bit carried away. I had a primary widget project, which is still a secret, but I also created a quick entry.

I use iTunes for my mp3s. I use the ratings feature of itunes to build interesting smart playlists. I've found that the UI for ratings songs is insufficient. There is one tiny area to click on a huge window. If you are like me, you'll enjoy my widget!

iTunes ezRate widget. The widget that makes it easy to rate the currently playing song without having the whole iTunes window maximized

stupid people....

Why do some people CC themselves on all of their emails? Do they not know that most email programs, including MS outlook, keep a copy of each sent message? Do they do it to verify that the email has reached it's destination (which shows a complete lack of comprehension about how Email works)?

TGIF

It's that day again. Friday. What makes Friday good? It's beer day at Yahoo! yay for beer.

It's nice to not have to work 90 hours a week for free stuff (like people do at that other search company). mm beer.

In other news, this weekend looks pretty quiet. I'm going to see the Chronicals of Narnia for free because I'm going with a church group, and I get to spend many hours fixing some minor impact damage to Winnie's car that was sustained when a brick wall found the back of her car. fun fun.

Fluids

Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow I have to change many of the major fluids in my car and fix up Winnie's car a bit. If anyone has any minor car related issues (oil change, new brake pads, etc.) and wants to join us, let me know. No skills, parts, or tools necessary. We can buy all of those at pep boys

VI for MS Word

I just found a tool that I've always wanted but been too lazy to find. VI emulation for MS word! If you don't know what that means, you probably don't need to read any more of this post. It's just too nerdy for you.
