Mob of Waldos!

All of you probably remember that great Where's Waldo where you had to find the real Waldo among the thousands of impostors, right? Well now is your chance to be in the real thing!

Show up in front of the San Francisco Ferry Building at noon on the 11th of November with your finest reverse-santa-hat and striped shirt. If you've never done a flash mob before, this is a good opportunity.

More info on the Mob of Waldos

It's all her fault.

I hope to see you there.

Cornfield Maze

I just got back from my first trip to a cornfield "maze". We decided to visit the Morgan Hill one this year: the Field of Screams. It was pretty fun, but not as fun as it could have been.

It was fun because it was my first costume event of the year (always fun) and I managed to spark up some entertaining conversations (as usual). It could have been more fun because it wasn't really a maze at all! It was a sequential zig-zaggy path with people running around trying to scare the patrons. There were no decisions to make, no path finding algorithms to analyze, just people in masks and makeup jumping about. At least, for what it was, it was pretty well done.

At least I had a chance to meet another of Winnie's UW friends: Thu.

Finally moving in

Friday was poker (aka drinking) and today (Saturday) was a BBQ in the park near SCU. I brought Turkey legs. yum. I also got a bit sunburnt.

Today was also the day that Winnie had found a Halloween costume rave party in SF. I was all tired from the sunburn so I drank a red bull / vodka to wake up and relax. That made me feel pretty sick for several hours so I skipped the party. I hope Winnie is having fun.

Anyway, that left me with a bunch of time, and a sick stomach. What better time exists to migrate all my old blog entires over?

Wow I've blogged a lot since 2002. I've managed to move everything back to the end of 2004. 2 years left.

This also means I've had a chance to review a bunch of them. Wow I have terrible spelling. Luckily FireFox 2.0 has spell check now :)

Another update on my life

Hey Everyone. Time for another update on my life… Not much exciting stuff here, in the form most efficient (and engineer-ish): bulleted lists!

  • I went to a renaissance faire a couple weeks back. The hardcore renaissance nuts would not have enjoyed it. People wore costumes that spanned about 1200 years (form the fall of Rome to the late Victorian area). I’m not one of those people, though. I had great fun. I ate a turkey leg, got some sun, saw a ‘dirty’ comedy show and saw lots of interesting people.
  • This past weekend:
    • Winnie was gone to Toronto to renew her Visa for her new job at Simply Hired.
    • I went to Great America for Joyfest (Christian Day). It was a lot less obvious than other common themed days such as gay day. Maybe it was because there was also a Halloween event running. The really nutty (and obvious) people probably boycotted it as a result.
    • On Sunday I went to Mazda Zoom Zoom Live with Steve. It was pretty fun, but very crowded. I learned that the RX-8 is an awesome car. Very tossable and has a great torque curve, but I also learned that people are actually learning about these events. Even on Sunday the lines were terrible. I probably won't go next year.
  • My father has a job at a local company now: Selectica Inc. I’ve been hanging with him a lot as a result (free nice dinner! Yay!)
  • I’m at a San Jose area blogger meet-up right now. (yes! I’m live-blogging. I’m a total nerd!) It’s pretty interesting: and student unfriendly. I had to hide the fact that I’m taking a US extension class. I wouldn’t want to be thrown out onto the street!

Hmm what’s going to happen soon…

  • Halloween is coming. I have a couple events lined up. I won’t make it to the Halloween drinktrain, though. I didn't plan that one nearly far enough in advance. It should be a lot of fun anyway.

That’s all for now… Check back again for more exciting news later.

I crashed evite!

For a long time now I've been thinking that Myspace is the worst site on the web in terms of technology. I still think that, but Evite disserves an honorable mention. Their recurrent event system is so clunky and difficult to use. When I created a recurring event from a single time one, it changed the event time to midnight and now whenever I make changes, they don't stick. Furthermore, as I've been updating this one event, it's become slower and slower until it finally crashed. It's been down for me for several min. I think I crashed one of their nodes and they lack automatic failover!
