Freedom of Religion

Recently Rajan Zed was selected to act as the first Hindu chaplain for the opening prayer of the US Senate. I'd explain what happened, but you've probably already heard. If not, read it from the source. Or better yet, watch the video.

Anyway, although I was first surprised that we have an opening prayer at all for the senate (seems to blur the line between religion and state), I was more impressed by Rajan Zed. It (sadly) almost seemed like he was expecting it. In spite of the jeers he held his composure, waited for the heckling to end, and completed his work.

How to save $100 on your iPhone

So you want an iPhone, but don't want to spend $600 for the 8gb one? Here's a 5 easy steps that will save you $100 if you're not currently an AT&T customer.

  1. Go to AT&T and sign a 2 year agreement and pick out the Nokia 6102i handset for free with your new plan.
  2. Buy an Apple iPhone for the retail price
  3. Get onto iTunes ASAP and activate your new iPhone with the phone number you were just assigned when you purchased the Nokia 6102i. The iPhone 2 year agreement will replace the 2 year agreement that you just signed.
  4. (Optional) If you're a l337 hax0r, unlock the Nokia 6102i to increase its resale value. I'll leave this part for you to figure out.
  5. Sell your Nokia 6102i on eBay for about $100
  6. Although I haven't done this, I've confirmed with several people that it does indeed work.

Good luck and enjoy the iPhone.

Just Plain Simple Corruption

I used to be an independent. I used to watch the political scene and make my judgments for any action or vote on a case by case basis. I didn't hold political grudges. Maybe this is just a sign of getting older, but I just changed.

I maintained my political party agnosticism through all of the following:

But now the current presidential administration has gone too far. Bush has basically pardoned Libby. A man that the court system decided should go to jail, will now be set free. I guess the republican party, the origin of the war on drugs, is hard on crime, unless it's them committing it. This hypocrisy and obvious corruption is the last straw. I'll never vote Republican again.

Although I'm not part of any party by this declaration, I'm not really neutral independent either. Since I need a label, to play in the political world, I'm going to start calling myself unrepublican until I can think of a funny name that won't put me on the Secret Service's radar.

Google Gone Evil

In a recent blog post to their health advertising corporate blog, Google responds to the scathing accusations of Michael Moore's Sicko by defending big pharma and recommending that they simply throw money at the problem and displace any other ads with their messaging... Seriously, wtf?

I'm no fan of Michael Moore, and although I haven't yet seen Sicko, I'll likely have the same opinion of it as I have had of all his other "documentaries", but this blog post is just awful PR.

Sure, I realize that all successful huge companies are at least a little evil. They have to be in order to crush their competition, but Google's been pretty good at their PR from this angle until now. It's a shame that some boob decided to pick a topic that the public is obviously going to care a lot about due to a blockbuster movie and the incredible momentum already involved in the next presidential election. That alone is a bad idea since you'll always make someone angry. They don't stop there, though. They decide to side with the target of that hugely popular documentary and against the 'little guy' getting screwed by ever hospital and every pharma. Many people will read that blog entry after having seen the movie and visualize Google right on top of the head of that poor child that can't get a transplant or the woman whose insurance would not pay for her ambulance. It's hard to recover from that damage.

What can they do now? All of those huge social network news sites like digg are already linking to the article, and the blogispheere is running in top gear. Just check out the 'links to this article' on the bottom of their page. They can't pull the article down, or remove the links or they'll receive even more criticism. They're stuck.

Anyway, if you're disgusted by them, try using a different product once in awhile. Give Yahoo! Search, MSN, or ask.com a try. It's nice to support the little guy sometimes.
