So it finally happened. I've been roller blading to work for weeks and have had several near-misses with automobiles. One finally hit me!

I was roller blading on the sidewalk heading north on the west side of the street. A Mercedes Benz at an apartment complex whipped around the corner and blocked the pedestrian path in the driveway. I slowed down but impact was inevitable. He still didn't see me so took off. That car has some pickup! He managed to get up to 10mph or so before we collided. Since he had some speed, I was thrown into the street when we impacted. I rolled out of it and everything seemed OK.

He stopped to make sure I was OK. I said I was OK and noticing that I probably did a couple thousand dollars in damage to his car (dented rear passenger door and dented rear quarter panel) felt that he had learned his lesson and decided to let it go. I did not get his information. Perhaps I'm just dumb, or maybe i was intoxicated by the adrenalin flowing through my veins.

The initial inspection showed that I had rolled out of the landing OK. I had some road rash and I ruined some pants that I paid $20 for at TJ Maxx. I even manged to catch my train!

This is when I noticed the sad part. Although I made it to work on time, some of the impact was absorbed by my laptop! The case of my MacBook Pro is dented :( All of the systems work fine, and the display is still perfect, but the lid will no longer close and there is obvious distortion in the bottom of the clam shell. Oh well. We'll see if I can fix it tonight. If not, I'll have to steak out the driveway later and hit the guy up for a new laptop :)
