How to save $100 on your iPhone

So you want an iPhone, but don't want to spend $600 for the 8gb one? Here's a 5 easy steps that will save you $100 if you're not currently an AT&T customer.

  1. Go to AT&T and sign a 2 year agreement and pick out the Nokia 6102i handset for free with your new plan.
  2. Buy an Apple iPhone for the retail price
  3. Get onto iTunes ASAP and activate your new iPhone with the phone number you were just assigned when you purchased the Nokia 6102i. The iPhone 2 year agreement will replace the 2 year agreement that you just signed.
  4. (Optional) If you're a l337 hax0r, unlock the Nokia 6102i to increase its resale value. I'll leave this part for you to figure out.
  5. Sell your Nokia 6102i on eBay for about $100
  6. Although I haven't done this, I've confirmed with several people that it does indeed work.

Good luck and enjoy the iPhone.

Duh

This new product, usbcells, is one of those inventions that makes you wish you had thought of it. It's a simpel leap to go from USB lava lamps to these USB rechargable batteries. They're a bit expensive now ($30 for a pair), but they'll be sure to come down in price once the volume increases. Once they hit $15 a pair and come in AAA size, I'll pick some up.

So sad... I suppose we just need to be more observant to those little annoyances in the world and try to think of simple ways to fix them. Afterall the really great ideas are the ones that were right in front of your (and everyone's) face forever.

I wish the Internet existed when I had time to blow stuff up

Apparently everyone knew about http://www.unitednuclear.com before I did, but wow anyway.

This site sells all sorts of stuff that you can kill yourself with from the pictured magnet (powerful enough to break bones), to dangerously radioactive materials, to chemicals that can be easily combined into very destructive explosives and thermites. The prices aren't too bad either.

Maybe it's time to start building dangerously powerful toy rockets or just plain cool thermites (great for melting a hole in the engine of your foe's car).

A great photo-nerd gadget

eStarling Wi-Fi Gmail / Flickr Enabled LCD Frame

What a neat idea. I can upload my pictures to Flickr, configure an RSS feed to work the way I want, and then my pictures will automatically appear on the picture frame at my desk without me doing anything else.

Too bad it has that wide frame and high price tag.

Widgets

I'm officially a code nerd once again.

I entered a contest to create a new widget (What's a widget?) and I've become a bit carried away. I had a primary widget project, which is still a secret, but I also created a quick entry.

I use iTunes for my mp3s. I use the ratings feature of itunes to build interesting smart playlists. I've found that the UI for ratings songs is insufficient. There is one tiny area to click on a huge window. If you are like me, you'll enjoy my widget!

iTunes ezRate widget. The widget that makes it easy to rate the currently playing song without having the whole iTunes window maximized

VI for MS Word

I just found a tool that I've always wanted but been too lazy to find. VI emulation for MS word! If you don't know what that means, you probably don't need to read any more of this post. It's just too nerdy for you.
